Reaffirming its commitment to accelerating its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and provide sustainable mobility solutions for all, Toyota Motor Corporation recently celebrated a significant milestone by surpassing 20 million cumulative sales of electric vehicles worldwide by the end of February 2022. Toyota estimates that the use of its electric vehicles has contributed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 160 million tons and saving nearly 65 million kiloliters of gasoline to date.

Toyota has long been known for its leadership in developing environmentally friendly vehicles and has adopted a multifaceted approach focused on “sustainable and practical” solutions as part of its strategy to respond flexibly to global demand for diverse mobility solutions. In 1997, the company launched the iconic Prius, the world’s first mass-produced hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), followed by the Prius PHEV, the world’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). In 2014, the Toyota Mirai, the world’s first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), was launched and has been very well received by customers worldwide.

Kei Fujita, Chief Representative of Toyota Motor Corporation in the Middle East and Central Asia, said: “We are extremely pleased to have achieved this important milestone. It is a testament to the quality, durability and reliability of our electric vehicles, thanks to the trust of our valued customers around the world. We are extremely grateful to each and every one of them for their continued support of Toyota’s journey towards carbon neutrality.”

Fujita added: “We are committed to continuing to search for diverse, sustainable and practical technological options, in our journey towards providing transportation for all and achieving happiness for all.”
